It's Fin-tastic!
Scientists have created an artificial fin for a dolphin that lost its tail fin from a mysterious disease. While most people may be impressed with this prosthetic advancement, I'm a bit concerned about the existence of a mysterious disease that causes your limbs to randomly fall off.

Cricket Temperature
Did you know that you can figure out the temperature by hearing the rate at which crickets chirp? Good thing someone wrote a program to use on a Palm to figure it out for you.

Cat x 2
Cats appear to be mildly helpful in saving lives, too. This cat raised the alarm in a house that a fire had started by "constantly meowing." Meows aren't really very loud, but I suppose this was a very urgent meowing...
What's strange though, is how the fire supposedly started - sunlight bounced off a fishbowl and focused on a table, causing it to burst into flames. Uh huh...

Lassie x 10
Dogs are pretty cool. This one was able to call 911 for her owner after she had a fall and can apparently even warn her owner about oncoming seizures just from her sense of smell.

Bear goes on Binge
In a clear indication that taking mass quantities of beer into the woods is a bad idea, campground workers at Baker Lake Resort, outside of Seattle, found a black bear passed out at a campground after drinking 36 beers.
The article says the bear must have been a "beer sophisticate" because he chose Rainier Beer over Busch beer. If you've ever tried Rainier Beer, you'll know that this "journalist" has never had Rainier Beer before. It comes in a can that's straight from the 80's minus the can tab, and it tastes about the same as deer piss.
Apparently the bear didn't have enough and returned to the campground the next day, they ended up catching him by baiting him with doughnuts, honey, and more beer.
In related news, Labatt is still looking for their missing mascot.

Running of the Bulls
There is a annual tradition in Spain where bulls are released into a streetway where they chase down fleeing people. Some consider it an iditiotic tradition, but what country doesn't have those?. The most painful-sounding injury to someone who was "gored in the scrotum," which is somehow only a "slight injury."

Welcome to the world of competitive rabbit-raising. These gentlemen are world renowned for their American checkered and Flemish giants. Tipping the scales at 15 pounds, these suckers rival my late cat, Willy.

Camel Spider
I'm not quite sure that this qualifies as an oddity, but it's pretty darn close. I certainly don't sleep as well at night knowing that camel spiders exist. Here's some footage of the beast in action.

Panda Sexual Education
I guess this can be filed under Animal Oddities. Oh the sexual harassment panda would not be happy about this: Vets in China are showing panda porn to American-born panda Hua Mei. Presumably because she was born and raised in captivity she does not know about mating. Thus the team of vets came up with the solution of showing the innocent Hua Mei panda porn. Where they obtained panda porn was not made clear, but the report says that vets have shown her the videos and taken her to watch other pandas mating. There has to be a better way to teach pandas about mating.
