How To Possibly Fix a Broken iPod
So I've had a 4th generation ipod for about 15 months now.
The Original iPod broke after about 11 months. The symptoms were a clicking hard drive and random freeze ups. The first time I took the iPod to the store, it fixed itself. It took a couple days for it to finally die.
After th first one, i purchased the applecare program for the ipod. This turned out to be a good idea. The replacement ipod only has a 90 day warranty. This second ipod died in teh same way in just over 90 days.
I'm on my third ipod now. I've been so annoyed with it I havent even loaded any music onto it yet.
According to this article, my problem may not have been a bad hard drive, but a loose cable.
After reading this article, I'm wondering two things. 1. Could I have fixed both of those previous ipods by myself. 2. Even if Apple has this problem, how stpid are they for not checking ipods with hard drive problems in the store for this cable issue before sending them off and giving the customer a new iPod?
Thanks Hux for the link.

How to sink Free Throws

Everybody would like to know how to sink game winning free throws on demand. It can be tough out there on the line with all the pressure. It would be great if somehow there was some mythical force that could instill confidence, peace, power and grace all at the same time. It would be great if somehow just by humming some magical tune you were able to become something great.
Look no further my friends. The answer has been under all of our noses. I'm surprised this has not been documented until now. According to the AP, Dirk Nowitzki uses the power of the Hasselhoff when it comes to sinking game winning free throws.
It must be one heck of a tune considering Nowitzki made two foul shots with 7.9 seconds left for the tying and winning points in Game 3 against San Antonio, then forced overtime by making two foul shots with 8.5 seconds left in regulation of Game 4.Smiling wide and laughing loud, he said the song was David Hasselhoff's "Looking For Freedom," a big hit when he was a kid in Germany.
For me personally, it doesn't get any better than when Hasselhoff is snowboarding down a mountain during part of a safari motorcycle tour in "hooked on a feeling," but I will definitely have to give "Looking for Freedom" a chance. Just look at all the good reviews.

Harvard Shmarvard
So I get an email directed to my snubster email account today with the subject : Snubster Founder Question:
Who is it...? And did s/he, by any chance, attend Harvard?
The logic behind this oh-so-ludicrous question is that I work for a magazine
that covers Harvard grads...and if the person brilliant enough to come up
with this idea happened to have also gone to Harvard, I would be quite
happy...
Thanks so much for any info.

From the author's signature I could tell that she was interested in writing a bit about influential Harvard Alumni.
Amused by this, I decided to shoot of this reply:
I went to brown. Harvard was my safety.

Mac Ads are funny but are they correct?

So Apple has been running a new series of ads on TV where a middle aged "dorky" looking guy in a suit represents a "PC" and some hip young guy is supposed to represent a Mac.
Now while the ads are fresh, new and entertaining, I'm not sure if they are actually technically correct.
A few examples:
In "Network" the ad explains that PC's and Macs can network together. Then the introduce a new "camera" into the picture and show that the Mac can talk to the camera, but the PC can't. "Everything just kind of works with a mac," they say. As far as I know, PC's probably have more drivers written for them and are compatible with more models of cameras than Mac's.
In "Virus" the ad shows a PC with a virus and the Mac not being concerned about getting a virus. Not only can Mac's get viruses, it's also dangerous for Mac users to think that they're immune to viruses.
In "Better" and "iLife" the mac claims to be better at things like movies, music and pictures due to the fact that the software is bundled with the OS. While this may be true, this isn't to say that you can't do everything and maybe evern better than the bundled software on Mac's with Free and Retail PC programs. The other interesting fact is that if Microsoft did decide to bundle all of this software with Windows, I'm pretty sure we'd hear the pitter patter of lawyer footsteps and the shouting of anti-trust.
In "WSJ" it's amusing because they quote Mossberg as saying that the Mac is the "finest desktop PC on the market at any price." So is a mac a pc? anyways, they go on to ask if the PC guy has received any reviews, and the PC guy fumbles at the question and makes up a fake magazine name. To imply that PC's haven't received favorable reviews from the media is kind of ridiculous too.
While I am impressed by the Mac, and their ads have always been different and interesting, I'm not sure if they're always or ever based on fact.

Hanso Foundation run by a cross-dresser?
So I've been looking through this extra-curricular Lost stuff and have strolled across the thehansofoundation.org . This site has an intro video that has a "girl" that looks a lot like the guy in the orientation video. Just put a black wig on the guy and imagine in your head what he would look like as a girl. Wondering what other people's thoughts are on this.
Namaste.

All Hoff All the Time

On one side of the room, a woman taps her foot to a music video. On the other side of the room, a man stares at a wall mesmerized by a calendar. What do these people have in common? They're both uber-fans for the Great David Hasselhoff.
Lately it has come to my attention at work that in some shape or form all of us are what you would say "Big Fans" of all things Hasselhoff. While this has taken a huge load off my chest, it has also opened the sometimes burdensome task of exploring all things that are Hoff.
In our explorations over the past few days we've uncovered a few gems as well as made our own:
http://www.davidhassehoff.com - An authorized and voice annotated Complete compendium to all things Hoff. I encourage you to start your research here. Pay attention to the photo album as this will help in analyzing the music video later.
http://www.davidhasselhoff.de - As we all know. Germans have an unhealthy and unexplicable affection for David Hasselhoff. A Good Source
The IMDB entry for the Feature Film Knight Rider featuring the Hoff.
Hooked On a Feeling - David Hasselhoff Music Video
2006 David Hasselhoff Calendar - As Produced by Doug Newman in honor of Chris's birthday and mutual love for the Hoff.
If we're missing any other gems please let me know.

David Blaine is an idiot
So tonight, against my better judgement, I watched David Blaine attempt to hold his breath for a record breaking 9 minutes. This was after his week-long stint in a human fish bowl. Now it is normal at this point to ask why anybody would do this. My only excuse was that I just got back from the gym and was too lazy to search for something better to watch.
David Blaine used to be respected in my opinion. Back in my High School Days, he would go around doing his "Street Magic." He did stunts like "levitating" or biting a quarter. However, with the help of the internet, you can find a guide on how to do his "street magic" and with some free time and practice on being ridiculously "intense" you too can become a Blainey.
So maybe it was the Internet that drove Blaine crazy. There wasn't any way that he could prove to the world that he was somehow magical, more intense or even more special than the next kid who spent too much time in a magic shop. Therefore he switched to attempting feats that no other person would ever bother to do:
1. Stand on a really high place for a long time.
2. Live in a acrylic box over the thames for a long time.
3. Live in a human fish tank in NYC for a long time.
4. Try to hold breath for 9 minutes and fail.
Now while I understand that none of these feats are technically "easy," they still piss me off. Blaine isn't attempting for any other reason than to make himself look cooler. At least in school they taught us if you're going to do something like walk for a really long time for no reason, raise some money for a charity while you're doing it and call it a walk-a-thon. Apparently Blaine must have gone to some kind of private school or something.
And so it upsets me that ABC dedicated an hour of live programming of watching a pruny David Blaine attempt to hold his breath for a long time. If there was a way, I would like ABC to give everybody who watched their time back, take back the money that they used to prepare the live broadcast, the goofy doctors, and the money they gave David Blaine for this personal publicity stunt and all contribute it to something worthwhile.
