Giant Squid Pictures

le squid.jpg
if you watch the discovery channel filler material you probably know that a variety of giant squid exists. sadly for a billion or so years no human has snapped a pic of one alive in the wild. but recently a japanses team did the impossible and got some cool photos.

Can you hear me now? Good.

Well I was one of the fortunate unfortunates who purchased a Motorola V710 immediately when released last summer. Oh I bought it anticipating that my phone would be able to talk seemlessly with millions of gadgets in a language known as bluetooth.

bluetooth.jpgHowever soon after acquiring the phone, it was clearly apparent that this phone had bluetooth, but a crippled understanding of it. Sure it could talk to headets and it could be used as a modem, but in other features it was sorely lacking. Couldn't do PIM Management, OBEX file transfers or any of that other bluetooth goodness.

So a bunch of phone geeks got together and filed a class action lawsuit. Verizon settled. This means, if you bought a v710 before 1/31/2005, then you're entitled to the full purchase price refund of your phone. Woo hoo!

Although I've gotten an e815 since then, I'm still looking forward to trading up to the CDMA RAZR.

Looks like Verizon will be getting me a christmas present this year.

LOL OMG! Hippie PWNED!

pwned.jpg

I hate hippies.

In true Hippie fashion ... Sheehan arrested.

Quotes from Sheehan:
"Someone said...'We should go down in a pasture near Bush's ranch and thousands of people would come and you ought to call it Turdstock' - so let's call it Turdstock"

"We are waging a nuclear war in Iraq right now. That country is contaminated. It will be contaminated for practically eternity now."

"I'm just so honored that the universe chose me to be the spark that has set off a raging inferno."

"I'm going all over the country telling moms this country is not worth dying for."

"Thank God for the Internet, or we wouldn't know anything, and we would already be a fascist state."

So I think I finally found my Stalker

This person has been Instant messaging me for the past few weeks and I have no idea who they are.

They claimed that it was a computer that was in an apple store in hawaii. After several unsuccessful attempts to get my buddy list from said machine, I finally confronted this internet intruder with a bit of insanity.

(22:54:55) ars073.03@mac.com: how are you? where is your picture?
(22:58:02) me: make the voices stop
(22:58:09) ars073.03@mac.com: LOL
(22:58:10) me: i paid you
(22:58:14) ars073.03@mac.com: did you?
(22:58:18) me: give me back my son
(22:58:29) ars073.03@mac.com: hahaha... i dont sell oranges
(22:58:43) me: THE REPORT WAS FACTUALLY INACCURATE
(22:58:50) bryantchoung: They're on to you
(22:58:55) ars073.03@mac.com: reeheeeeheeeeeely?
(22:59:10) me: SUSAN WAS A PROSTITUTE
(22:59:19) ars073.03@mac.com: and you are strange!

Did some google searching and it indeed turns out this is from an apple store,

So the next time you're in hawaii, can you please remove my name from the buddy list?

Man Eats technology in protest

So a guy rides a bike to the cell phone store. He's ticked off that his phone hasn't worked in 6 months. He demands a refund.

After getting infuriated, he breaks his phone in two. Then he decides to eat the memory chip inside so that nobody can take his information.

I only wish I had a picture to post with this story.

Avoid Phone Trees with this List

botblth2.jpg
Not sure if this is just me, but I really hate those automated voice systems that are in use everywhere. Even worse now are those horrible automated systems that are supposed to be easier by having you talk rather than press buttons.

Usually when I call customer service its for a specific problem that I really need to talk to someone for.

Fortunately for me, someone has compiled a list of companies and shortcuts for getting to a human operator on the line. Enjoy

Something I've Noticed.....

le pics.jpg
i would like to think im a fairly observant individual and one thing ive noticed is that seinfeld-isms are appearing everywhere in ads. thankfully today i ran across an article that expounds on this... but the question remains... why now? dvd releases? setimental reminincings? ingrained cultural terms?

no clue?

Stonehenge Pocket Watch

12noon.jpg

This made me chuckle.

It's basically a portable sundial that uses a miniature model of stonehenge and an included compass.

I can't wait till I see someone using one of these out in the "wild"

Its good to be stock-y

As a geek I spend time looking at computer books. Always trying to stay on the ball. So about a year ago I saw this book, by O'Riley, in the store:
headfirstDesginPatterns.jpg

It's a cutsy book about design patterns that looks like it atempts to make the Gang of Four accessible to Liberal Arts turned Senior Software Architects/IT Managers. Well it turns out the hipster chick on the cover also has an itch that just wont quit.
teenmain_girl.gif

Don't ask how I found this, I just did. Anyways if you want to be hip and funky: DON'T USE STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY. That's all I have to say.

Nano Nano

nano30.jpg

So you probably have seen the MotoRokr and the nano by now. The two latest releases by Apple this week. While the ROKR seems to be getting lackluster reviews, the nano seems to be doing quite well.

For those of you who can read japanese or who like looking at nerdy photo's, here's the most "in depth" review of the nano i've seen so far.

Upon breaking open the nano, they revealed that the nano is powered by 2GB Samsung Flash memory chips. This kind of makes it the result what you would get if the entire iPod family got together and had a baby.

Shuffle: Flash memory Long Battery Life
Mini: Screen and Click Wheel in small Form Factor Long Battery Life
iPod: Color Screen, White Translucent exterior.

Overall, I can't help thinking I want it although I know I don't need it.

More food for thought.

Seems like a restaurant in northeast China decided to get on the whole "tiger it's like viagra with a T" craze that's been popular there for ... oh lets say a thousand or so years. This restaurant was offering a dish of rare "tiger meat" for $131. Now before you PETA people get up in arms about men eating tigers, you should know that they weren't serving tiger: just donkey meat soaked in tiger urine. YUM!!! Thankfully the restaurant is no longer open.

Ass the other white meat

Well unlike reports to the contrary, I am not dead. At least I don't think I am. Anyways, I have found out that the most modern of medical techniques is actually quite old. So forgot you Prozac, Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Xanax and get your down on the farm good ol' LEECHES.

Not for those that are of faint of heart

Ham Sandwich : Australian for Bad Email

A couple ladies in Sydney Australia got in an online battle over a missing ham sandwich. Insults flew, names were called, and the story traveled far and wide and in the end, both lost. Both of them have been fired.

I'm looking for this "catty" email exchange that seems to be all the fuss.

UPDATE 9-8-05 : Found them. They're listed after the jump. The funny part is where they both talk about their wonderful high paying jobs.

Yesterday I put my lunch in the fridge on Level 22 which included a packet of ham, some cheese slices and two slices of bread which was going to be for my lunch today.

Over night it has gone missing and as I have no spare money to buy another lunch today, I would appreciate being reimbursed for it.

There are items fitting your exact description in the level 23 fridge. Are you sure you didn't place your lunch in the wrong fridge yesterday?

Probably best you don't reply to all next time, would be annoyed to the lawyers.

The kitchen was not doing dinner last night, so obviously someone has helped themselves to my lunch.

Really sweet of you to investigate for me!

Since I used to be a float and am still on the level 19 email list I couldn't help but receive your ridiculous email - lucky me!

You use our kitchen all the time for some unknown reason and I saw the items you mentioned in the fridge so naturally thought you may have placed them in the wrong fridge.

Thanks I know I'm sweet and I only had your best interests at heart. Now as you would say, "BYE"!

Dinosaurs may have been a fluffy lot

chicken.jpg

In China, they have uncovered preserved dinosaurs which were trapped in a volcano and apparently these dino's had feathers.

From the Article

“The way these creatures are depicted can no longer be considered scientifically accurate. All the evidence is that they looked more like birds than reptiles. Tyrannosaurs might have resembled giant chicks.”
