Business School Hack Followup

Here's a followup to the story that was posted before about the business school kids who had hacked in to see if they had gotten accepted to school. Looks like some of them were able to explain their way back in.

Should Cell Phones be allowed on Planes

planephone.jpg

This debate has been going on for a while, but should cell phone be allowed on planes? Part of me says, it shouldn't interfere with the flight controls of the plane, but another part of me doesn't want 200 businessmen yapping away all flight whenever I'm on a plane. Homeland security is saying it could lead to something more dangerous.

Nintendo Revolution Picture

nintendo.jpeg

Here's a picture of the new Nintendo Console, called Nintendo Revolution. Other than its small form factor, I'm not too sure if there's too much "revolutionary" about this console? Might make for an interesting car mod. Or maybe you could slap it behind a flat screen or maybe even inside of a Rear Projection unit.

update:: Added second picture.

Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible

anotherxbox360.jpg

YES!!!

The Xbox 360 will be backwards compatible. This makes the new console even more attractive now that it means I can play Fuzion Frenzy on it. Hopefully this doesn't prevent them from finally releaseing Fuzion Frenzy 2.

They have also announced that there will be a Final Fantasy released for Xbox 360.

Quick Reference Cards

I wish I had these earlier, but here is a website that has a few quick reference cards for nerds. I found them while looking for a decent xemacs reference card.

They mostly outline open source software and a few languages.

If you have a double sided printer, these work amazingly well.

Hiring is obsolete

Here is an amusing essay by Paul Graham about the values of recently graduated students.

Questions the valuation of promising students by large companies vs. the open market.

An interesting read whether you're a recent graduate or maybe you're on the other side and you're a manager.

Did you know that 1/3 of Hong Kong men don't wash their hands after going potty? If I were you I would think twice before shaking hands. I decided to include directions of how to wash hands. I am not sure what language it is. It might help our Hong Kong friends.

Real Virtual Driving

These guys took a wrecked beater, put a white sheet in place of a windscreen, got some free driving sim software and a lot of free time and made a driving simulator.

The amusing part is that they got all the controls working like the steering wheel and even the guages.

no more booty-shaking!!

while I was driving to work on Friday morning listening to the radio I heard that cheerleaders in Texas of all places can't shake their booties anymore.

To bad so sad for those Texas teenage girls. In the state that made cheerleading so popular with the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. The state's House of Representatives voted 85-55 to approve a bill that would forbid sexy cheers and give the Texas Education Agency authority to punish schools that allow "overtly sexually suggestive" routines

I don't know about you but many times I am hungry for a burger, but this is amazing!!

15 pound burger up in air.jpg

If you are interested and have $30 to burn you can order a 15 pound burger from Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, Pa. They say it takes 2-1/2 hours to cook so they recommend that you call ahead. In addition to the burger, it is a mighty bun and they put on 25 slices of cheese.

Celebrate with Beer and Fireworks

A man in Chicago apparently drank 10 beers with a female companion and thought it was time to celebrate.

He decided it was time to light a 10 inch mortar shell. These are the fireworks that you see that shoot up into the sky and are 50 feet across when they explode.

Apparently, he lit it as a hoax, thinking that he could put it right out. He was wrong. A few seconds later, he blew out every window and set the house on fire.

The real funny part is that this was a renter.

Tell People Who's Number 1

Sometimes when you're walking around, you're not sure if everyone around you knows that you're number one.

There's only one way to be sure. Have the scrolling belt buckle tell everyone that you are.

For only 30 dollars you can have your belt buckle scroll up to 6 messages in red LED. Is 30 dollars too much to pay for something that will go with every outfit?

The Ultimate Taser Cannon

tasergun.jpg

I was contemplating using the headline: The only way to fight the lines for Star Wars.

Well this bad boy is a 30 barrel taser cannon. This is not one of those wimpy units that they used to sell at the Sharper Image that ran on a 9 volt.

No this bad boy puts out 110,000 volts of electicity with laser guided precision.

There's so much power in this sucker that the lead wire for the electricity vaporizes and the power travels on a beam of plasma.

Anything within 35 feet is a target for this pneumatically controlled beast.

Ugly Kids

uglykid.jpeg

In the vein of other useful research, Canadian researchers have found that ugly children get treated worse by their parents. I might see how this would work out in the evolutionary standpoint... but what about that adage saying that ugly kids grow up to be good-looking and good-looking kids grow up to be ugly?

Perhaps that's just to make people feel better...

So much for progress....

pills.jpgWomen's rights have come along way since Margaret Sanger pushed for Birth Control. Women have regained their ownership over their own body. The abortion issue aside, birth control is a huge part of women's rights. Regardless of how you feel about taking birth control pills, every women should have the right to choose. After all many women, of all ages, take birth control for other purposes like acne, regulation, less craps....all that other crap we have to put up with. So, if you feel as strongly as I do about the right women DESERVE to have over their own bodies, there is something you can do to show your feelings.

One politician in Wisconsin is proposing a ban of all birth control distribution, advertisments, and education on ALL University of Wisconsin campuses. Way not cool and possibly unconstitutional. Make your voice known. We are adults and deserve to be treated as such.

Let them know how you feel about the Birth Control Ban

Runaway Bride Pulls a Seiler

wilbanks_1.jpgMaybe Audrey Seiler wasn't such a crazy after all. Maybe pretending to be kidnapped is just normal behavior. Maybe its supposed to be a funny. We can just say, oh she just pulled a Seiler.

Jennifer Wilbanks ran away before her wedding. She took a bus to Albuqueuque and called her husband to be and told him she was kidnapped.

While she was on a bus to Vegas, her fiance came under questioning, the family thought she might be dead, and the local law enforcement set up a search. This sounds like a great "joke" to me. I'm surprised more people didn't do this on April first.

After turning herself in and admitting that she lied, she flew home first class, wearing a new FBI hat, blazer, polo shirt and pants and carrying a new tote bag and teddy bear, a gift from the aviation police chief.

They're unsure at this point if they'll charge her with a crime even though they're now finding evidence that this may have been premeditated. She bought the bus ticket around April 20th and has been saving up cash for the trip.

They should put her in jail, fine her for damages, and prevent her from profiting by doing a talk show circuit and a book deal.

The first Time Travelers Convention

Here is the nerdies thing i've posted in a while.

Some folks up at MIT are holding a Time travelers convention. The point is to publicisize the convention as much as possible so that when we do eventually learn how to time travel, they can come back and attend the party.

They imagine this eventually becoming something like an interdimensional woodstock.

They suggest using different methods to publicize the event. Tell your friends, carve the event into clay, leave notes in random books, etc...

We'll see if anyone shows up. Here are the details:
The Time Traveler Convention
May 7, 2005, 10:00pm EDT (08 May 2005 02:00:00 UTC)
