The Enormous Omelet Sandwich

bkOmelet.jpgSure we all love bigger and better. And so we watch as Burger King and McDonalds target the egos and the stomachs of the 20 something crowd. No longer are they worried about crimping calories, now they want to make sure that the sandwich has a hemi.

Enter the Burger King Enormous Omelet Sandwich. Not bothering to assign a weight in the name, they just call it Enormous. It carries about 700 calories and about 47 grams of fat, or about the same as 7 subway sandwiches. And this is all before lunch.

The only problem is that if they're targeting the 20 something college type age group, they're going to make sure that they serve breakfast later than that crack-o-dawn 10:30 am crap.

This is risky... Burger King may be killing off all their customers before they reach 30.

So I hopped on over to BK this morning to try out their Enormous Omelette Sandwich. Bear in mind, I was already having stomach trouble since last night, so that will color what I'm about to say a little bit. My review: No false advertising here. That thing is enormous. Basically, 2 egg "patties" with a sausage patty, about 10 (I kid you not) strips of bacon and a slice of melted cheese stuffed into a Chicken Sandwich bun. Add to that a carton of OJ and a thing of mini-hash browns for a $3.99 meal deal, and it's no surprise that I only got 2/3 through it before getting stuffed. I think there's a reason why breakfast is usually the smallest meal of the day. My body was plain not ready for all that meat and grease. I was hungry going in, so the first few bites were delectable. However, after that, it quickly became a chore. Honestly, I think the first few bites were seasoned with hunger. McDonald's breakfast sandwiches are by far the tastier. I agree with Bryant. This is a marketing mistake, and it will quickly fail. No one in the demographic of "people who wake up early enough for breakfast at BK's" is going to want to eat that whole thing. It's basically twice the size of any other item you would order from their breakfast menu. So, even if I do wake up early enough and decide to hop over to BK's again, I can tell you that I won't be getting it again. It wasn't that good. But it was enormous.
