Wrestlemania Goes Hollywood!

With Wrestlemania coming up this Sunday (4/3, at 7pm) I figured I'd write up a summary of the card and what to expect. This is so when you hear everyone else talking about Wrestlemania, you can follow their conversations and even contribute something intelligent!

Triple H vs Batista for the World Title
This has been building up for months. Batista, former member of Triple H's group Evolution, finally steps up and goes after the belt. He's got good momentum coming into this and it should be an exciting event. Unfortunately, Batista has yet to show he can perform at a main event level, so hopefully he can step up and do his end.
Prediction: Batista. He has too much momentum coming into this to lose.

JBL vs John Cena for the WWE Championship
I cant say I follow Smackdown as much as Raw, so I don't know as much about this one. I do know that JBL has been champion for a ridiculous amount of time (since last Summer), and with his "Cabinet", has been pretty unstoppable.
Prediction: JBL retains, but Cena will win the belt sometime down the road.

Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle
This is one of 2 interpromotional matches, with Michaels being from RAW and Angle being from Smackdown. Michaels eliminated Angle from the Royal Rumble a few months back and Angle has been angry ever since. This is also the first time in a while we're getting a real match out of Angle, as his neck is pretty screwed up.
Prediction: Angle. He doesn't wrestle big matches often, so I expect him to win when he actually does.

The Undertaker vs Randy Orton

This is the other interpromotional match, with the undefeated (12-0) Undertaker taking on the "Legend Killer" Randy Orton. It seemed like neither had any good feuds going into Wrestlemania, so they just threw this together. Undertaker did have a really nice video package play last week of all his wins at Wrestlemanias thus far.
Prediction: Undertaker wins. I cant see him losing to someone like Randy Orton after beating so many other greats at past Wrestlemanias.

Money in the Bank: 6 Man Ladder Match (Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benjamin, Christian, Edge, Kane)
This is a ladder match for a contract for a title shot at any point in the next year. Ladder matches have traditionally been a lot of fun to watch, and most of these contestants have been in really good ladder matches in the past. Expect this one to be a lot of fun.
Prediction: Edge. As much as I hate him, he has been getting into the main event more lately, and this is probably the way he's going to get his next title shot.

Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Geurrero
These two are the current Smackdown tag team champions, and Eddie challenged Rey to a match. At this point, they are both "faces" (good guys), but I expect Eddie to go back to his old ways and turn on Rey. These two are both great wrestlers that are exciting to watch, so expect a lot of fun, high flying spots.
Prediction: Eddie cheats for the win.

Other Stuff:
Big Show vs Akebono in a sumo match: I've never seen Akebono wrestle or Big Show sumo wrestle, and I doubt this will be more than a 5 minute bathroom break.
Trish Stratus vs Christy Hemme for the Womens Championship: I hate Christy even though I voted for her, and she definately does not deserve the women's title. I cant imagine that she can wrestle.
Stone Cold on Pipers Pit: His big return, but dont expect a match. Stone Cold is too injured to wrestle a match, so expect a heel to come in and get a stunner.

Post your own predictions!

This is what they should teach you in College

Internet games are great for procrastinating. For some serious time committment, this game will drive you nuts for hours. It's unlike any game I've ever witnessed. If you think you are a computer geek, the master of games, or the next Mensa candidate, give it shot. Be ready to think outside the box (or at least outside the middle of the screen). There are 100 levels. Maybe this is what they should use for Grad School requirements....

The Enormous Omelet Sandwich

bkOmelet.jpgSure we all love bigger and better. And so we watch as Burger King and McDonalds target the egos and the stomachs of the 20 something crowd. No longer are they worried about crimping calories, now they want to make sure that the sandwich has a hemi.

Enter the Burger King Enormous Omelet Sandwich. Not bothering to assign a weight in the name, they just call it Enormous. It carries about 700 calories and about 47 grams of fat, or about the same as 7 subway sandwiches. And this is all before lunch.

The only problem is that if they're targeting the 20 something college type age group, they're going to make sure that they serve breakfast later than that crack-o-dawn 10:30 am crap.

Sony Banned from Selling PS1 and PS2 Stateside

playstation.jpgSony has been ordered by a court to stop selling Playstation and Playstation 2, Two game controllers, and 47 Game titles (another article) due to a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Immersion Corp.

The lawsuit in a court in California claims that Sony infringed on Immersion's technologies which synchronized video games with vibration in controllers.

I'm not sure about the details in this case, but I remember playing Goldeneye on my N64 back in High school in 96-97ish that had vibrating controllers. I'm not even sure if that was the first game with a vibrating controller.

Also I'm curious to see what this means for Nintendo and Microsoft and their consoles.

According to Sony, they will be allowed to continue selling the Playstation with compulsary licensing fees to Immersion at least until the appeals.

Close Minded Television

One of the arguments or statements that I hated most during my time at Brown was the all too favored "Conservatives are so close minded."

I loved how accepted it was be another typical liberal on campus and that you were going to show your individuality by wearing berkinstocks, smoking weed, not showering, playing acoustic guitar, throwing frisbee, wearing as much paisley, vintage, thrift store clothing as possible, collecting nostalgic irony, freeing tibet, and bush bashing every day. If you didn't follow this strict schedule, you were immediately close minded and offensive.

Now along comes Fox News. Fox News is not like the other stations. Admittedly Fox News does lean right of the other boys, but perhaps that where Television needed some balance. Perhaps CNN was too left for too long. Perhaps thats why Fox News now averages about double viewership during Primetime as CNN enjoys.

Now in an effort to block out this close minded television and to protect liberals from possibly hearing another person's viewpoint, Sam Kimery is selling a 8.95 dollar device that supposedly blocks out Fox News.

First of all, I highly doubt this device actually works. With Digital TV, Satellite TV, Analog TV differing channel lineups etc. I don't see how this 9 dollar dongle could actually block Fox news in all these cases.

Next, is this really how people want to go on living their lives? Sure at college it was simple to live in the liberal bubble, without responsibilities, gobbling up quotes as professors shove communism down your throats, but isn't it time to accept other viewpoints like Fox News.

Sure it would be one thing to simply erase Fox News from your TV tuner lineup, or not watch Fox News. But why bother paying for a device and sending threatening letters to advertisers. Is it just so that you can score points with your liberal buddies as to how protected from the Man you are?

I'll let you listen and enjoy.

UPDATE:: Hahah. They put up a link to her page at the end of the show. The Server went down in like 15 seconds. On my cached version, the hit counter shows 718584. I'd like to see what its at tomorrow.

Full House was a great show. It introduced us to Bob Saget, the Olsen twins, and life lessons.

It was a milestone in many people's lives when the show ended. However, for this guy, the show didn't have to end. He wrote episodes for season 9 and 10.

Firefox Increasing Market Share

Well I bet Hux is getting all hot and bothered about this already. He has made no secret about his lust for Firefox. Now Information Week has released that Firefox continues to grow its presence. It now holds an 6.17% market share. Microsoft's IE has dropped below 90%. Firefox is currently the only major browser with continual growth in market share each month.

It should provide an interesting stage for when Microsoft is expected to release the IE 7 beta this summer.

Steroids in Baseball a Growing Problem?

So yesterday, Congress took time to invite baseball players up to Washington to chat. Sure we're a busy country with a war on terror, reforming social security, etc... but why not spend a day listening to baseball players lie about not taking steroids.

canseco01.jpgSteroid use without a prescription is illegal. Baseball has policies against steroid use, however steroid use is increasing every year. Does this mean that Congress needs to come in and interview players and come up with new rules for baseball?

Baseball clearly knows it has a problem with steroid use. Even before all this Congressional crap, they had players getting caught and then being embarassed by the media. It made the players look bad, and it makes baseball look bad. As a business, baseball understands if people think baseball is just a bunch of juiced up monkeys out there, people are going to say "professional baseball" the way they say "professional wrestling". No offense to Bernie or the WWE.

However, this doesn't mean that Congress has any right to go in and change what baseball is and does. Maybe the MLB does want to go in the direction of the WWE. Maybe they institute a policy that you can take a folding chair to home plate, but it is not the place of Congress to try and change their rules. However, if Congress brought up all the players to bring them up and charge them with illegal drug use and use them to bring down illegal drug rings, that would be a different story, but I don't think that's what happened yesterday.

Now I'm a strong believer in the power of the market, and I can see baseball enacting much tougher rules and launching new campaigns to earn the trust and viewership of fans. This would have happened with our without Congress. I think yesterday was just a way for Congress to get some face time on TV and make it look like they're actually doing something for the children. But I think it's absurd because quite frankly when I vote for a politician, I vote for his stance on political issues, not on baseball.

Keeping this site clean is no easy task. I have people attacking this site with comment spam almost 24/7. I've tried to keep clean with the no follow tag, using a comment spam blocker, and a good eye on the site, but today was the worst. A spammer hit me with 20 comments in a row that got by the filter. Fortunately, I was able to get rid of them pretty easily using a string search, but its a huge pain in the butt. I've had over 2000 comment spam cleared out of this blog since the server switch at the end of January.

So us bloggers are doing what we can to Fight back at these purveyers of online smut, viagra and Online casino owners. We're bombing google search results to eliminate Online poker from search results. So sorry if you enjoy Online Poker, but I for one hate Online Poker. I'm all for keeping this game analog and offline.

The Story of Ashley Smith

Ashley Smith was held at gunpoint by Brian Nichols (the Atlanta courtroom gunmen) in her appartment. Some of this story is worth thinking about.....

"I believe [God] is the only person that helped me through that,"

"You're here in my apartment for some reason," she told him, saying he might be destined to be caught and to spread the word of God to fellow prisoners. She told him his escape from authorities had been a "miracle."

"I honestly think when I looked at him that he didn't want to do it anymore," Smith said at a news confeence Sunday. "I believe God brought him to my door."
Quotes from FoxNews

she also baked him pancakes, read to him from the Bible and from Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life. it not what one expects to happen from a stand-off...

notes after all this happened when polic surrounded the appartment and he gave up peacefully.... I am not saying that this is some magic proof that Christianity is right or that she "duped" him with religion.. what i am saying is this is something that makes me think....

New and Improved : Super Shuffle?

So here it is, the Super Shuffle. It was shown off at the CeBIT this weekend. It even has the new ad.

The specs in it are awesome, same size and specs as the original Shuffle plus the ability to record audio, FM Tuner, playback of MP3 and WMA files.

The only catch? It's not made by apple, its' made by Taiwanese manufacturer luxpro.

I personally prefer the luxpro model. We'll see how the courts like it.

Scam of the Day : Citibank Phishing

So I woke up this morning with 3 emails in my bank from "CitiBank" with a "Security Update". At first I was concerned because I thought maybe somebody has started using my credit card. But then I got even more concerned as I realized I don't have a citibank credit card. Whats even more puzzling is that it also sent emails to writers_AT_bryantchoung.com.

Turns out this is a phishing scam, and I was impressed by the way Gmail handled this.

Phishing for those of you who aren't down with the lingo is an attempt to use devious technology to try and get personal information. This includes credit card numbers, social, drivers license etc.

Click on the smaller Screenshots for a larger view.

First Gmail's filters must have thought this might be a possible phishing attempt because the top of the email had a header inserted: Warning: This message may not be from whom it claims to be. Beware of following any links in it or of providing the sender with any personal information.

Next Gmail stripped out all the Links in the email. This prevents the type of attack they were attempting. They were attempting to make a link that looked like it was going to Citibanks site instead of a DSL Modem in Turkey.

Curious to see what this phishing site looked like, I decided to look at the source of the email to get to the site. I traced the IP Address to a DSL modem in Turkey. This may or may not be true.

Upon Entry to the phishing site, the page looks real, Except for the ridiculous amount of personal information it has you include. Also people who are at all concerned would probably be worried about submitting a form like this not over a secure connection.

So after having my fun with the form, I clicked on the link in the original email that Gmail had to report this as a phishing attempt.

We'll see how long this website stays up.

For those of you who are interested here is the URL:
http://81.215.116.179/citibank/index.htm

WARNING DO NOT ENTER IN REAL INFORMATION. As far as I know this is either being sent to some teenager or al Qaeda.

Cat Season

Ah Wisconsin,

Another animal story from Wisconsin. If this proposal goes through, we'll soon see a lot more. Mark Smith of Lacrosse has proposed that any cat in the open without a collar is an unprotected species.

To people without a nice arsenal and a license to hunt small animals, this doesn't mean much, unless you own a cat. If this proposal becomes adopted, a hunter can legally kill any cat out on the street without a collar.

So don't like your neighbor's cat? Get a box, maybe poke some holes in it, take off the collar, and ship it off to Baraboo. Them good ol' boys will take care of it.

As an aside to anyone else from Wisconsin: How much did those field trips to Baraboo suck?

Harvard Shmarvard

Apparently it's really easy to get into Harvard Business School, or at least businessweek forum on how to hack into HBS's application site to see if you'd been accepted.

Apparently, Harvard decided to post application decisions a month in advance and left them on a server. 119 people read this hack and found out if they had or had not been accepted. After inevitably finding out about the hack, Harvard has announced that all 119 people of these will be denied admission no matter what. In their statement, Kim Clark stated, 'This behavior is unethical at best -- a serious breach of trust that cannot be countered by rationalization... Any applicant found to have done so will not be admitted to this school.'

But is this only the applicants' faults? Isn't the company who was hosting this more to blame, and isn't Harvard responsible at all for leaving application decisions in the open? And can they really prove that the person who viewed the information was the applicant? What if it was an anxious brother or sister or parent with more computer expertise? Other than Harvard's pride what was really hurt here? Is this course of action that Harvard took really ethical itself? I bet we'll see some lawsuits try and determine that in the next few weeks.

I thought the Onion was Fake News?

This article comes from Brent who found it in the Onion. This article is so short I'll copy it in its entirety:

Gmail User Pities Hotmail User
OLYMPIA, WA—Recent Gmail convert William Ramsak, 23, said Monday that his "heart goes out to" friend Kelly Oldenburg, who still sends e-mail through an MSN Hotmail account. "I feel so bad for you, needing to squeeze into 250 MB of storage space," Ramsak wrote to Oldenburg in an e-mail. "And I hate thinking of you sorting all your old e-mail, while Gmail automatically indexes mine so they are searchable." Ramsak then asked Oldenburg when he was going to "stop being a Microstooge and join Team G."

The funny thing is that this probably happens when:
int numGeeks;
int numNonGeeks;

numGeeks = nerdSearch(100ft);
numNonGeeks = humanSearch(100ft)-numGeeks;

if(numGeeks/numNonGeeks > 1.5){
  human Geek = randomGeek();
  for(int i=0; i<numNonGeeks; i++){
     human nonGeek = getNextPerson();
     while(nonGeek.GmailUser() == FALSE){
         Geek.praiseGmail(nonGeek);
         Geek.inviteGmail(nonGeek);
      }
   }
}
The funny thing is i knew this was over the line before i started, but i kept going. once I started it was too tough to stop.

Anyone want a gmail account? I got 50 invites!

Yahoo turns 10 Today. Why should you care?

Yahoo turns 10 today. This celebrates 10 years of being one of the post popular sites on the web second only to bryantchoung.com. It's pretty amazing looking back at this relationship I've had with yahoo. At first it was all about yahoo, but then my eye wandered over to webcrawler, and for a while i was a diehard fan of hotbot and now I split time between yahoo and google. But yahoo, has always been there for me. With free searches, free email, free webhosting. Remember when some search engines cost money?

And today instead of us giving Yahoo a birthday present, yahoo gives one to all of us. They want to buy us ice cream. This offer is only good for today and at Baskin Robbins. So Enjoy!!!

Thanks to Amelia and Bryant for the heads up on this.

UPDATE::
The ice cream was delicious. and here's what yahoo looked like 10 years ago
