I, am afraid of Robot
Seriously guys. We need to stop this. I've posted endlessly about all the dangerous road we march down by continuing to make robots faster, smarter and stronger.
But I may be too late. Brazilian scientists who are known worldwide for their bleeding edge innovation in drugs, have now announced that they have made the world's first electronically controlled crab. That is correct. Add on to your list of things to be afraid of and add a premium to your health insurance, Bionic Crabs are on their way.
In a blatant attempt to scare the world as an upcoming superpower, Brazilian scientists have shown how they can control the mouth of the crab. If they had a fleet of these crabs that could eat on command, imagine what would happen. I can't even begin to imagine the horror.

Kerry's in Acting, Affleck in Politics?
Some of you might have seen the girly pitch that Kerry threw to open a Red Sox fan. With each bounce it took before reaching home plate, it reassured us all that Kerry would never play professional sports, or throw a baseball in public again. However, taking time off before filming Gigli 2, Aflac has attempted to defend Kerry's wimpy throw to anyone who will listen. Apparently after realizing that all of his movies suck, he's going to try and parlay his lackluster movie career into a political life and get out of Matt Damon's shadow. I think his new role models will ironically be republicans Arnold and Ronnie. I don't think Matt realizes that its going to take longer than he thinks for the American public to forgive him for his ugly breakup with J-Lo.
But why not enter politics after a movie career. It seems like that's what John Kerry is trying to do. It has been revealed that much of his "Vietnam War footage" on his personal camera was actually re-enacted. In a quote from a new book, Unfit for Command:
"Kerry would revisit ambush locations for reenacting combat scenes where he would portray the hero, catching it all on film. Kerry would take movies of himself walking around in combat gear, sometimes dressed as an infantryman walking resolutely through the terrain. He even filmed mock interviews of himself narrating his exploits. A joke circulated among Swiftees was that Kerry left Vietnam early not because he received three Purple Hearts, but because he had recorded enough film of himself to take home for his planned political campaigns."

The Best Tee-Shirt in the Universe
While I was searching the internet for a hilarious T-shirt I saw the other day, I stumbled onto a pretty funny website that boasts such articles as "You're not Dave Chappelle, and you're not funny", "Bill O'Reilly is a big blubbering vagina", "We know you're a cranky bitch, you don't need the bumbersticker" and of course "Christopher Reeve is an asshole". For those of you too lazy to click the link the t-shirt reads "For every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat 3".

Porn ban
Looks like in Norway the hotel workers are vying for a ban on pornography in hotel rooms. Apparently it causes some of the hotel guests to act inappropriately with the workers. As one puts it, "It can be very unpleasant to get called to a room to be met by a naked man." Didn't Bryant go on a trip to Europe last year? And I believe Noah is there right now. Perhaps he should investigate...

Stab-proof
In Japan, it seems that the children have most to fear from each other. As a result, one company has started producing "stab-proof" clothing in order to provide protection. Hm... that definitely could prove useful.

I can't think of a Batter Idea
Seeing sluggish sales in their stores, Krispy Kreme has looked to alternative ways to generate sales. Apparently people have begun to realize that the carb loaded, sugar drenched, fried snacks aren't that good for you. This has resulted in a period of less donut sales.
After mulling over what to do, they have decided to move from doughnuts into the beverage area. However, because they are a doughnut shop and they are idiots, they have decided to make a donut flavored drink.
There is no excuse for this ridiculous irreverant behavior. Krispy Kreme has clearly jumped the shark on this one. This heralds the end of Krispy Kreme. I can think of a million different things they could have moved to that would be better than this:
A Doughnut BLT.
Chicken Pot Donut
Hot Pocket, Donut edition
Splenda Donut
Meat Donut and along with Meat Donuts come MeatHoles or Meatballs
A beverage that doesn't taste like donut.
Baked not Fried Donut
Grilled Donut
Olean Donut
Tofu Donut
I could go on forever...

Has anyone noticed that a lot of weird stories end up coming from local6.com? Those weird Floridians... Here are some highlights from their slideshow: the world's smallest cat, the world's biggest bunny, another freaky woman with too many pets, and a a car crashed into a roof (check this one out for sure).

Oh heck ya
When I was a kid, I always wanted to have a go-kart. Eventually, we made one in Boy Scouts, but it was kinda lame - it was all wood and had no engine. You had to get behind it and push it around. We should've tried to go for a jet-powered go-kart instead.

this article on hangovers at msn starts thus:
"Q: Between work and family parties, I always wind up with hangovers. Is there a quickie remedy for recovering from drinking too much alcohol?"
first step in recovery, not drinking at work and who has family parties that leave them plastered? my only guess is soccer holigans.

What is Extremism?
i find this article a little distrubing. its about religious tolerance and how saudi arabia should have done more to encourage this in its kingdom. the troubling part is what it subtly implies is extremism:
"I know it's partially about religious conservatism in a Muslim country, but I also wonder if it's a symbol of how the Saudis have never taught tolerance of outside values, whether they be women's fashion or another's religion....
A textbook for 6-year-olds published last year by the Saudi education ministry, and currently in use at the Virginia school, reads: "All religions other than Islam are false." A note for teachers says they should "ensure to explain" this point."
If its extremism to not accept all faiths as valid then just about every american is now an extermist. Noah is, he is an athesiest. I guess i would be too, I am a Christian.
By nature religious claims are mutually exculisive and i do not get why one can no longer make claims that other religions are false. it seems as if you do, you must be an extermist.

I can Bearly resist this
I robot came out last weekend. It's a movie about talking robots that take over the world. Looks like we're well on our way to making this a reality.
ESpring USA is selling bears that have a handsfree cell phone speakerphone built into them. Not only does the voice of the person that you're talking to magically emanate from deep within this plush bear, it also moves when the person talks, so it really seems like you're talking to a bear and not a person. You have to see the video to really appreciate this.
Imagine, instead of staring at a blank wall when you're on the phone, you can have a wonderful conversation with a real life animatronic doll. Instantly, calls to the doctor to get test results are always cheery, cuddly and touching.
There are many different styles of stuffed animal you can get, but what I'd really like to see is a talking snuggles bear. I've always had a soft spot for this incredibly soft and static cling free bear. And I would love to talk to snuggles.

Theres Something About Cameron Diaz
Well well well, what is it about being famous that makes people want to take off their clothes in front of a camera. It looks like a video entitled "She's no Angel" featuring our favorite angel/ogre Camerons Diaz has recently been realeased on the internet in which the blonde starlet prances around topless and sprays her breasts with a can of condensed air. Or so I'm told. First the Paris Hilton sex tape, and now Cameron Diaz. With so many young attractive stars bearing all on the internet, the obvious question arises: Britney, what are you waiting for??

The cure to the world's problems
Someone at Apple must have done some pretty nice things for some people at Duke. Because now Duke is servicing Apple by purchasing more than 1650 ipods. In a move that will cost the University way more than $500,000, Duke's Center of Instructional Technology is touting the ipod program as a great way to encourage creative uses of technology.
I'm sorry, but it is under my impression that whenever a University forces their own to adopt purchase a new technology it should be practical and useful rather than just "creative." According to Duke, content is being developed so that lectures can be heard on the ipods, class schedules and notes can be made available for the ipod. What the administrators seem to be forgetting is, that in order to do all of this, their wonderboy, the ipod, needs to be hooked up to a computer to sync all of this information. As long as you're at a computer, why not read your notes a display that has more than 300 pixels and supports more than 2 colors. Plus do you need to be able to carry around audio recordings of lectures everywhere? Don't get me wrong, I own an ipod and I'm not saying that the ipod is a bad mp3 player, I'm just saying its a bad idea to force it down the throats of all incoming freshman as an "academic tool".
In the mean time, the Average Dukee graduates with $20,000 of debt, their tuition and "mandatory fees" rise every year, We still have no cure for aids, there are people starving in Africa, and literacy in America is down. At least Apple's stock is going up.

But do I really need it?
So, I'm pretty excited about my new phone coming in from Verizon Wireless. Previously I hated all cameraphones because they looked like larger than average phones with a camera added as an afterthought. After my current phone broke, I was confronted by a wall of phones that seem to be FCC mandated to incorporate a cameraphone. To me, a poor quality camera and phone go together like lamb and tunafish, but seeing as I had no choice, I had to make the jump.
I was actually getting pretty excited about my phone getting to me, until I read this article. The PH-S5000V and PH-K1000V from Pantech & Curitel puts to shame any phone that we'll see in the United States for the next 10 years. It incorporates 1 gig of memory, an mp3 player, an FM Radio, TV tuner, 3 megapixel camera. And the ability to record camcorder videos and TV. This phone almost makes me want to move to Korea.
Why are we so far behind?

Greetings from Europe
Hey guys, its me, everyone's 4th favorite staff writer at Bryantchoung.com I havent been able to bless you all with posts recently since I have been traveling across Europe. However at the request of Jesse, I though I would post a few of my travel stories and some pictures from my trip for anyone who is interested. If so, click the extended entry...
After a long and excruciating flight on Air India, I arrived in London, England.
One of the first things I attempted to do was sample some of the traditional faire, namely Fish and Chips. I looked around at some local pubs, and the prices seemed pretty reasonable, hovering around 6.95 pounds. However considering that the pound is worth approximately 2 American dollars, these were some pretty expensive fish. I settled with a pub called the “Brewmaster”, since I figured if I had the choice between having my beer brewed by a master and a non-master, well that’s not really a choice at all is it? Unfortunately Americans and Europeans have a different idea of what allows a beer to be ranked at Master status. You know that last half inch of beer left in your bottle of Miller High Life? The stuff that is all warm and un-carbonated? Well the English figured out how to brew beer so it’s all that way.
Despite the beer I was looking forward to fish meal. Well for those of you who have never been to Britain, and would like to sample a little of their culture I’ve got good news for you: the fish and chips there are the same as every fish and french-fry platter you have ever ordered at every Denny’s you have ever been to. There were only two differences between British and Denny’s fish. First – in England they don’t put up with naming their food stupid names. On the menu it clearly says “Fish, chips, and peas” instead of “Fishy squishy, fresh n’ deliciousy”. Secondly, in Britain you have the option of having your french fries with malt vinegar instead of ketchup. If anyone out there ever gets the chance to have your fries with vinegar, I suggest you pass.
OK and here is a picture I took in Geneva Switzerland. Its of the time when we were attacked by a giant skeleton at the Geneva Museum of Modern Art. Luckily there was a tour group of small children that the skeleton was able to feast on, allowing me to make my escape.

trip to australia: $1,000 buying a suitcase at a flea market: $35 findig out it had rare beatles recordings in it: litteraly priceless
local man buys a suitcase at a flea market in austrilia opens it up and find a treasure trove of beatles songs, tapes, and notes. his $35 will likely earn him more than a quater million dollars.
and while this story is great from his perspective i wonder how the poor bloak who sold the case feels. think about it you just sold one of the most rare and most desirable suitcases in the whole world for $35 bucks when if you had just opened up the item and looked inside you could have maybe even retired.
i wonder if we can get the person who sold the suitcase for an interview. i think that is the real story..

Asian Lemmings
In a strange attempt to get their way, a group of 23 petitioners in Beijing climbed atop a building next to the Supreme court and threatened to all jump in an attempt to get their demands met.
Normally, when you try and bargain with someone, you try and keep yourself in the equation. Apparently the Chinese government didn't see this opportunity to win the battle with these 23 darwin candidates, but instead placed "large safety cushions to prevent death."
While standing up there for 5 hours, it never occured to them that it might be fun to take advantage of this "large safety cushions to prevent death" try some base jumping. Instead, all of them were taken into police custody and taken in for questioning.

Running of the Bulls
There is a annual tradition in Spain where bulls are released into a streetway where they chase down fleeing people. Some consider it an iditiotic tradition, but what country doesn't have those?. The most painful-sounding injury to someone who was "gored in the scrotum," which is somehow only a "slight injury."

Stupid Dirty Video
The California's education commissioner Richard Riordan, the former Republican mayor of Los Angeles, was holding a story telling hour at a Santa Barbara library.
During story hour, Isis D'Luciano, 6, asked, "Did you know that my name actually means an Egyptian goddess?" she said with noticeable pride in her voice.
Quick to put this 6 year old girl back in her place, Riordan replied, "It means stupid, dirty girl." After the other kids laughed, he continued, "Hey, that's nifty."
Quick to attack the 70 year old white grandfather, the NAACP quickly jumped into the fray demanding that Riordan resign. Democratic state Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally was quoted in The San Jose Mercury News on Thursday saying the child was "a little African American girl. Would he [Riordan] have done that to a white girl?" Obviously, Dymally made the conclusion that Isis was black, because her name was Isis. They have since cancelled the protest.
You can watch the video of the events that took place here.

The Sun goes down on Michael
Looks like George Michael fans have lost their faith in George Michael. After Fans started posting negative comments about Michael looking old and fat and saying how bad his latest recordings were, he wrote a statement staying that he would shut down his discussion forums on his website.
He is quoted on his forum:
"I feel bad for those of you who have always been supportive, but I'm afraid I want nothing to do with the bitching that has evolved between some members, (many members), and perhaps unofficial sites will be a calmer affair."
What a little crybaby. He should take a lesson or two from Jesse.
