are we still Under God?
well well well... once again its time for Jesse's thought provoking post of the week. if we beat 20 comments im taking everyone out for ice cream and swimming in bryant's pool!!!
seems as if a man in california is sueing to have "under God" taken out of the pledge. He feels too offended that his child had to say under God. I say that the majority of americans believe in some sort of god (I myself am a evangelical Christian) and i think this line reflects national values of our past and present. It is a national statement and not a personal one from my point of view and thus the line should remain right where it is....
once again i await noah, or anyone else, to tell me just how wrong i am...

Here's the kicker: "Some supporters of the California father, outnumbered about four-to-one, shouted over the speeches of pledge proponents. They carried signs with slogans like 'Democracy Not Theocracy.' "
Why don't they just hold up signs that say, "We follow other men, not God!"
Cuz, in essence, isn't that what they're saying??? "Democracy (government by the will of the people) not Theocracy (government by God's standards)"
I tell ya, it would be so tight to live in ancient Israel, when they had kings that listened to God and followed His laws. Or, better yet...how tight is it gonna be on the new earth when I've got a resurrected body and can't do anything but live in pure worship and praise of the Lord. No sin...wow.
MARANA THA!

I for one do not believe that a theocracy (according to the OT) is possible nor is it a correct hermeneutical approach to reading your Bible Matthew, but that isn't the point.
In a country with separation of Church and state how can one defend this slogan being in the pledge of allegiance (sp). From what ive always been taught separation of Church and state means that the government will not endorse one particular religeon yet, this slogan does not promote any one viewpoint as it is very general. Thus i still stand by it being a national moto as it is represented in our tradition and by our present population and not a particular faith tradition.
same with coins that state in God we trust. We are a nation that has faith in higher powers and thus this is defedable....

I don't think this issue will generate too much debate, since even I, as an athiest, have no problem with the pledge of allegiance, or with "in god we trust". I recognize that lots of people in this country are religious, and seeing the word god every once in a while isn't causing me any harm. (Just like seeing a book about gay princes isn't causing you any harm).

Shirl,
Out of curiousity, how do you know jesse and why are you a jesse fan? What's your real name? I just thought it was odd how you, Shaniqua, and honey all posted from the same computer.
Also seeing as you posted from an AOL account mebbe you can post using your real email instead of DKLJF.com
